The International Pageant system was created in 1985 as a married woman's pageant to celebrate marriage, family, and community service. Sherry Benson competed and won Mrs. Maryland International in 1996 and in 1998 became the State Director. In 2005 Sherry started the Miss Teen Maryland International Pageant and in 2009 began the first Miss Preteen Maryland International Pageant. Contestants participate in monthly events that range from "Go Red" charity walk, Breast and Ovarian cancer fund raisers, and several feed the homeless events. Contestants also attend many parades including the Preakness Parade, Columbus Day Parade, Thanksgiving and Mayor Christmas Parades.
